Rudi is a winemaker and surfer from Somerset West. He is one of 5 brothers and 3 are winemakers! They grew up surfing Strand and Kogel Bay every day after school. The ocean and more specifically the spots where some of the best waves on the planet break was the inspiration for his wine labels. Each surf spot is paired with the cultivar. The Syrah suited Pepper Street (hinting at the tasting note), the big wave spot; Dungeons was great for a massive Cab Sav from Stellenbosch and the ice cold waves from Skeleton Bay matched the Chenin. Detailed illustrated landscapes, done in circular shape, so that the layout would resemble a range, when seen together on display. Each label highlights something from that specific spot; the chokka boat for Pepper Street in Eastern Cape, a whale for the deep trench at Dungeons and a khaki Land Cruiser bakkie for Skeleton Bay.
